HCSP Camp Activity Lead

HCSP Camp Activity Lead

Position Summary

The HCSP Camp Activity Lead provides goal-oriented support for a small group of individuals (typically 2–4) within a high-energy, inclusive day camp environment. This isn’t just “babysitting” at camp; it is a structured professional role where you facilitate social integration, sensory exploration, and physical development through camp activities like sports, arts, and nature trails. You will be the bridge between the fun of camp and the clinical goals of each client’s Person-Centered Individualized Support Plan (PCISP).

Key Responsibilities

  • Group Facilitation (DHGS): Lead a small group of individuals through scheduled camp rotations, ensuring each person is actively participating at their ability level.
  • Habilitative Skill Building: Turn camp activities into learning moments. Whether it’s practicing turn-taking during a board game or working on motor skills during archery, you must link activities to the client’s specific waiver goals.
  • Behavioral Liaison: Work closely with the client’s Behavioral Consultant (BC) to implement “on-the-go” behavioral supports. You will be responsible for applying the client’s Behavioral Support Plan (BSP) in a group setting, ensuring camp remains a safe and positive experience.
  • Daily Narrative Documentation: Complete digital shift notes that satisfy 2026 DHGS requirements. Notes must explicitly state how the camp activities assisted the client in achieving their PCISP goals.
  • Health & Safety: Maintain constant supervision during camp transitions and high-sensory activities. Manage medication administration and personal care needs as required.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • Registry Status: Must be active on the Indiana HCSP Training Registry (or willing to complete the 12 core competencies during onboarding).
  • Education: Current College Student or Associated Degree in social work, psychology or related field required; experience in Recreation Therapy, Special Education, or Kinesiology is a plus.
  • Physical Stamina: Must be able to remain active for 6–8 hours in various weather conditions (heat, light rain) and navigate uneven outdoor terrain.
  • Certifications: Current CPR/First Aid certification.
  • Experience: Previous experience in a camp, school, or group-home setting with individuals with IDD is highly preferred.

Core Competencies for This Role

  • Adaptability: The ability to pivot a camp activity on the fly if a client becomes overstimulated.
  • Inclusion Mindset: A passion for ensuring individuals with disabilities are not just “present” at camp, but are active, valued participants.
  • Collaboration: Comfort working in a “team-of-teams” environment (collaborating with the Camp Director, other HCSPs, and visiting BCs).
