Our team provides clear answers to frequently asked questions, helping clients navigate services, processes, and important program policies efficiently.
Behavior management (modification) refers to the process our Behavior Consultants use to work together with clients and their support teams to assess target behaviors, and functions, as well as implement replacement behavior strategies and positive reinforcements.

The treatment plan for behavior management (Behavior Support Plan-BSP) would focus on identifying and decreasing problem behaviors and teaching you different or more appropriate behaviors. The most common issues addressed by our behavior consultants include physical aggression, non-compliance, symptoms of depression, elopement (running away), self-injury, property destruction, and verbal aggression, to name a few.
When Torres Behavioral Health receives a referral for services, we work together with our clients to find the right fit. Personality and rapport play a big part in determining if the Behavior Consultant will have success with the client. Therefore, client and guardians will have the opportunity to interview our consultants and choose who they would like to begin services with.
At any time, our clients may feel free to request a different consultant from Torres Behavioral Health or request a pick-list to pick a new Behavior Management provider from his or her case manager.
If you already receive Waiver funding, through either the Family Support Waiver (FSW) or the Community Integration and Habilitation Waiver (CIH), you will need to contact your current case manager to set up an interview and select Torres Behavioral Health LLC on the pick-list.
If you do not already receive either the FSW or CIH funding you can get begin that process by visiting the link below.
It’s okay if you aren’t sure! Many people start with Individual Therapy to explore their personal goals. If your primary stress comes from a relationship or family dynamic, Marriage & Family Therapy might be the best fit. If you are struggling with a specific past trauma that feels “stuck,” we might suggest EMDR.
Tip: During our initial consultation, we’ll chat about what’s going on and help you decide which path feels most comfortable.
Privacy is the foundation of healing. Everything shared in therapy is confidential, with very few legal exceptions (such as if there is a risk of immediate harm to yourself or someone else).
For Couples: We usually have a “no secrets” policy to keep the relationship healthy.
For Children: While we keep parents updated on progress and general themes, we protect the child’s “safe space” so they feel free to express themselves.
There is no “one-size-fits-all” timeline. Some people find relief in just a few months of EMDR or Group Therapy, while others prefer the ongoing support of Individual Therapy for a year or more. We will check in regularly to make sure you’re feeling the progress you’re looking for.
For kids, we recommend keeping it simple and low-pressure. You might say: “We’re going to meet a special teacher/friend who has a room full of toys. Their job is to help kids understand their big feelings and have fun while doing it.” Once they see our playroom, the nerves usually disappear!
Absolutely. While they offer different experiences, research shows that Group Therapy can be just as effective as individual sessions, especially for issues like anxiety, grief, and social skills. Many clients actually find that the peer support in a group helps them heal faster than they would alone.
One of the best things about EMDR is that you don’t have to describe every detail of a painful memory out loud. We focus more on the emotions and physical sensations you feel now, and use bilateral stimulation to help your brain process the rest internally. You are always in control.
Our team is ready to provide support, clarify questions, and guide you through services, programs, and eligibility requirements.
